For the goal of a fall deployment of cluster machines in Department of
Urban Studies and Planning, major things needed to achieve this are:
DNS infrastructure
Kerberos single sign-on
AFS
Directory population
Installers by Group Policy
Registry settings
Applications in lockers
This list is no shorter than the last status report. We may get lucky
and find solutions to our problems in the next few weeks, but the
prospect of a delivery to DUSP for this term will be late.
Accomplishments in August
-------------------------
- W92 DHCP works for W2k. We planned to extend this to N42 and 9.
- New Kerberos and KLP binaries are available for Software Release.
- AFS 3.6 driver is installed, but needs debugging.
- Modular installers are in the build tree.
- Remote install testing is under discussion with Microsoft.
- A Project Center server is working but not deployed.
- We have code for storng password generation.
- Washing machine (overnight build) works.
Goals for September
-------------------
- More remote install testing.
- Deploy Project Center
- Continue with Software Release Team on zephyr, plop, leash32 and
klpr.
- Expand DNS.
- IE certificate support (jis).
- Access on/off requirements.
- Finish kerberos single sign-on functionality.
- Populate the AD using DCMs and other programs.
- Get AFS 3.6 working with group policies intact.
- Work with NetOps to assist with AD population, Athena backup, and
syslog.
- Backup client machines.
Issues
------
- Techpubs, training and support plans are on hold.
- When shall we get MS RTM source code? Hotfix source?
- Is Kerberos 1.2 beta ready for revised apps?
- Does the AUI Dash & gnome require Pismere revisions?
