Project Name: Online Credit Card Processing Delivery
Project Leader: Lorraine Rappaport
Report Date: 8/31/2000
URL: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/ccard
Accomplishments Past Period:
- Installed and evaluated ShopSite software on test server
- Supported work being done by WCS, Museum, and PSB to begin building the
Museum Shop's online catalog using ShopSite
- Worked with Sloan to acquire ShopSite license for SMR storefront
- Continued conversations with and received proposal from ClearCommerce,
whose ClearCommece Hosting Engine is a candidate for longer-term credit
card payment processing
Goals for Coming Period:
- Finish work with Museum, et. al. to develop their catalog, set up
CyberCash, and test transactions with the goal of having the store in
production in early October.
- Understand impact of this pilot on IS staff and services. Understand
framework for making this a scalable production service, review impact on
business models, etc.
- Document activities and lessons learned from Museum implementation to
develop generic checklists, testing plans, etc. that may be used for future
implementations
- Determine options for using ShopSite with ClearCommerce and other payment
processors
- Decide whether/how to pursue with ClearCommerce
- Check in with sponsor
Issues:
- It hasn't always been an easy to jump back and forth between designing a
long-term solution vs. accomplishing the short term goals and deadlines for
getting the first two merchants up and running with ShopSite and CyberCash.
Key learnings:
- There are many pieces to this puzzle, including the catalog
tool/pages/location, the shopping basket, the credit card payment
software/service, the bank processor and connectivity to it, and the bank.
Changes - or new information - in one area has ripple effects on the rest.
Team Dynamics:
- Okay
