"Managing" the press is important for any endeavor supported by public
funds, (e.g. the NREN).  Some lessons can be learned from working with
the trade press, (while realizing that the trade press is a lot different 
than the public press).  For example, "Network World" has an "User Advisory
Panel" comprised of experienced networking professionals.  I believe
that one of the founding members of the Internet had a similar relationship
with one of the trade press in the past.  That periodical did seem to
be a little quicker at reporting Internet-related events.
