You make the assumption that this reporter is capable of good reporting.

You can't get misquoted if you say nothing.

The basic mistake I made was assuming this reporter would take an objective 
view of the complete picture. He himself admits that he was overwhelmed by
the complexity of what he discovered.
} By the way the idea of a reporter as opposed to say a biographer giving
} one preaproval rights on a story he/she has written seems as ludicrous as
} the idea of having appropriate usage guidelines based on content.
At the time, I was concerned about technical correctness. I have seen too
many stories where the technical details were wrong and therefore the story
had no factual merit. I was not interested in censorship, just accuracy.
What I require now is that the reporter tell me something about his story,
when it will appear, and his opinion on what he is writing. Those with some
kind of agenda will always be turned down. I am happy to be interviewed by
objective reporters. These reporters write factual stories without the 
emotionally charged, opinionated material I have found in articles by
this reporter.
