   Pardon my ignorance . . . as a relative newcomer to this list, it would be
   uselful to know (via signature line) what the credentials are of the people
   discussing these important subjects. Participant's affiliations are not
   always clear by the header info.  Since we are a mix of academic and
   commercial folks, it would be helpful to know the angle from which comments
   are made.

Here are some of the significant ones:

  o Steven Wolff speaks for the NSF's network.
  o Marty Schoffstall speaks for PSI.
  o Rick Adams speaks for UUNet/Alternet.
  o John Curran speaks for Nearnet (used to be called NEARNet :)

As for the rest of us (including myself), well, you can only listen to
see who's sane, who isn't, and whose words reflect reality.
