I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but:
When I merged the authority records for Bert Lahr, something funny
happened to the linked bib records. Waiting for Godot, which did have
an 049 $c ended up with two phantom holdings, while the Wizard of Oz,
which did not have an 049 $c did not have any phantom holdings.
Jo Lynne and Bobby have other examples of this.
