Thought you all might enjoy seeing some positive remarks from another
Advance site. I have not been able to connect to their catalog; I've
asked her to confirm their telnet address and I'll let you know.

Nina,
Barbara Kemp passed your message requesting documentation we have
developed on ADVANCE on to me. I am afraid I don't have lots to share,
but there are a few things I think I can help with. I will mail you
copies of the two guides we have developed for the public--one tells
how to search, the other provides directions for connecting to Advance
from off-site.
We haven't had a great deal of time to work on help screens, but the
system has been so well accepted here that it hasn't been a big problem.
If you connect to our catalog, you might want to look at the ones we
have developed. They appear when pressing return on any of the search
options from the search menu (title, subject keyword, notes, etc.).
We also wrote descriptions of the various modify options, which will
appear on the bottom of the screen as you move through the possibilities.
We did offer training sessions to the public when we first brought the
system up, but they weren't well attended at all. Occasionally we will
have people ask for classes during the semester, but because of the
dreadful turnout, we don't offer Advance-only classes. We have a
class, Introduction to Electronic Resources, which lasts one hour
and is offered 8-10 times during the semester. In it, we introduce
students/faculty/whoever shows up to Advance, the CD-ROMs, online
databases, and the Internet. We really only let them know what is
available for the last 3 topics, but usually do about 15 minutes worth
of demos on Advance, to show some of the really helpful but less-used
capabilities (related works, modify search, difference between known
item and keyword).
If you have questions on any of this, I will try to answer them.
I will mail out those handouts this morning.
