The switch won't know the mac address until the machine actually sends
data. It will also time that entry out of its switching DB pretty
quickly so the machine needs to generate data while you are checking the
switch.

Do you get flashing lights on the switch when data is sent by the
computer? (start a ping or something...)

Subject: Compaq Deskpro 7000s with Accton NIC

Currently on our campus we have three Deskpros that will not communicate
with our 3com network. We get a link light at both ends of the wire and
have tested the wire and everything checks out fine. The deskpros are
trying to connect to a 3com hub 40 or a 1100 switch. The nic has been
hard
coded to 10 half to communicated with the hub, and both 10 half/full for
the
switch. The nic does not register its mac address on the switch, even
though a link light appears at both ends. Has anyone out there has had
issues with the same machines or have any other suggestions?
