We are planning to change our main lab to this new arrangement this summer.
Our plan is to remove the computer "quads" and open the area up with
moveable partitions to create semi-private group study areas. Around the
walls we'll maintain some traditional desktop workstations. It will be a
wireless setup. Students can also checkout laptops. We've operated a laptop
checkout pilot program in the main library for a year to gain experience in
that area. There will also be some sort of drink and snack service
available. At ResNet conferences we've spoken to several folks at Stanford
about this concept. Perhaps some of them on our listserv can reply too.
