The quality and quantity of applicants improved when we stated what they
would get out of the job (pay, paid training, team environment, resume
building and flex schedule). Make the ad fun (and different from other campus
positions).
We are more successful with technical training so we look for existing
customer service skills but they still need to know their way around the OS
(but not experts).
Here is an example ad we run:
Techies, Nerds, and Geeks wanted
The UNCW Technology Assistance Center has openings for student workers.
We offer $8.00/hour with opportunities for increases, paid training, flexible
schedules based on your classes, team environment, and great resume
building. You should already have some customer service and/or technology
experience.
