We use the SysPrep technique. As you mention, some things do not carry
over, notably the IE and Windows Media Player wizards that insist on
running the first time you launch those programs.
I got around this by making a script run once for new users.
One script launches Windows Media Player and then presses the correct
buttons and closes WMP.
You can also eliminate the IE8 customization wizard for new users by
editing the following key of the default user profile:
'Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main', 'DisableFirstRunCustomize',
'REG_DWORD', 1
