Hi All,
We are slowly moving from our Siemens PBX to the Siemens VOIP as buildings =
are renovated or new buildings come online.
Their office is down the street from our main campus (we have 7 campuses sp=
read out over 170 miles of sunny FL coastline......).
Personally I think that their VOIP solution might not be quite ready for pr=
ime-time.
We are finding some minor issues but then again Siemens is great in resolvi=
ng them quickly. Last week we had 7 of their engineers here (2 flown in fro=
m Canada and Switzerland) to listen to us to what our concerns and wishes a=
re.
After spring break we are looking to test their Fixed-mobile convergence (F=
MC) feature.
We need the FMC as all our new LEED buildings are a RF nightmare where no c=
ellphones work. We are looking for a DAS but that costs $$$$ and might take=
a while so FMC can resolve some of the issues getting a hold of people.
Just keep in mind that power does go out and configurations do get messed-u=
p. This is why in all out residence halls we do have some POTS lines direct=
ly to ATT. These will stay up during a hurricane.
I'm "just" a user and not involved with the implementation directly but if =
anybody has questions don't hesitate to contact me.

Subject: Choosing VoIP phone system
Hello All
We are looking at replacing our aging PBX with a VoIP system. Do any of the=
users on this list have experience choosing vendors? Did you use a consult=
ant? Did you use a RFP? Are there any particular features that were advanta=
geous to your Faculty or Staff?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
