We went through this in '07. We looked at Cisco, Mitel, Nortel, and Telrad.
We selected Mitel. We provided vendors a general requirement list and we
looked at different installations and talked with customers. We did not use
a consultant. We didn't use an RFP. We essentially replaced our previous
digital sets with IP phones and also purchased analog cards to maintain
analog phones. New dorms use IP phones. Most students use their cell
phones. We provide students IP phones on a request basis. Employees enjoy
receiving voice mail messages via email. We use gmail, so there isn't
integration with the voicemail system beyond sending the wav file. It is my
understanding that Exchange integration with voice mail is nice, i.e.,
listening to a voice mail on Exchange marks it as listened on the voice
mail system. There are desktop apps as well. We haven't rolled those out
to beyond our office. Hope this helps.

Robert
