Hi Jeff. What system are you using for users to create guest accounts? We=
currently use GuestPass, provided originally by Enterasys (I guess it is a=
Trapeze/Juniper thing now). To get an account it has to be requested by o=
ur helpdesk, who creates the account and sets an expiration. It would be n=
ice to allow students/faculty/staff to create their own guest accounts whic=
h would be tied back to them in records in case any violations or illegal a=
ctivity occurs.

1. That is one big advantage with going with Google for e-mail is th=
at they do a great job of keeping up with that and they have great document=
ation.
2. We have a guest network where students, faculty & staff must log i=
nto using their AD credentials and guests can log in with credentials creat=
ed by any student, faculty, or staff. This network doesn't require NAC and=
still allows them to check e-mail, and surf in case our secure network doe=
sn't work on their device. Also, we use Cloudpath<http://cloudpath.net/>, =
which handles much of the configuration and they keep up with many mobile O=

Subject: Mobile Device Headaches
All,
I honestly have a headache.
It's this big:
(Picture me holding my hands to about the size of a smartphone.)
Some of the things I'm trying to manage:
1) Staying on top of which Android phones actually fully support Excha=
nge synchronization and which require the use of third party applications.
2) Keeping up with NAC registration when students get a new phone from=
their parents every two weeks and the NAC doesn't necessarily recognize th=
e new devices yet.
3) Managing iPads in an enterprise environment when Apple won't give m=
e any real enterprise tools.
4) Figuring out how to help clients from capturing the buzz to actuall=
y leverage Kindles, Nooks, iPads and other mobile devices into being useful=
parts of their operation.
If you have any ideas, I would love to hear from you.
But.
What would be better than just e-mailing me would be if you could give some=
thought to giving those suggestions or relating your experiences at the St=
udent Technology Conference at the Claremont Colleges this June.
Teaching me things is great! Teaching Southern California is even better! =
Teaching the world while enjoying Southern California? Not sure you can b=
eat that.
Give it some thought, eh?
And then visit http://resnetsymposium.org/rspm/index/ to sign up and submit=
a presentation proposal with what you'd like to share with us. You don't =
have to have your presentation completed and polished, just a brief descrip=
tion will do. You'll have time between now and the conference to make your =
presentation shine.
The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2012 at 5:00pm (Pacific Time).
