We found it simpler to create a 64bit (virtual) print server and point any =
new 64 bit client machines to that server.

We had a similar experience when we decided to bite the 64bit bullet.
It can be convoluted but once you get both 32 and 64 bit drivers on your pr=
int serve r(if you're going that route) then things should work alright.
Driver/network/etc support for 64 bit is worlds ahead of where it used to b=
e (anyone have a favorite XP 64 bit CCA or some other such story?) and we'r=
e resisting any effort to put 32 bit on servers or workstations unless abso=
lutely necessary.

We did have printing issues when we began supporting 64-bit Windows systems=
. The bottom line is you need to be able to load both 32-bit and 64-bit pr=
inter drivers onto your Windows print server in order to ensure that 64-bit=
clients can connect and find a workable driver. If your print servers are=
already 64-bit, you probably won't have much trouble. If they are 32-bit,=
you may be in for a bit of work as forcing the installation of 64-bit driv=
ers onto a 32-bit server can be difficult. In our case, we actually had to=
open the print management interface on our 32-bit server from a separate 6=
4-bit server and perform the 64-bit driver installation that way. This is =
because Windows stupidly will not allow the installation of 64-bit drivers =
on a 32-bit server OS.

Is anyone running Windows 7 64 bit in their public labs or classroom? Have=
you had any issues?
We are planning on upgrading our lab PCs from XP to Windows 7 but we are de=
bating 32 vs 64 bit. We have heard other campuses had issues with printing=
using the 64bit OS.
