For those who are using smartphones, how do you keep the normal chatter
(especially email) from waking you up each night?

I really like the idea of using a tethered cell phone someone else
mentioned. We've got a drawer full of old Razr handsets, and I think
the Motorola Phone Tools software provides an API for doing SMS over a
USB tether. Add it to our "business family plan", no need for $30/mo
data "feature". Might actually be less expensive than a land line for
a modem, and eliminates as many failure points as possible between us

Each carrier has an address that you tack the phone number on to.
<br>
So, you could use the email function to send them that way to see if
ATT delivery is any more reliable using that method.

We are currently using IPmonitor to monitor our network devices
(servers and
<br>
switches). It is configured to send e-mails when devices do not reply
to ping
<br>
requests, and during non-business hours it sends text messages. SMS
with a
<br>
modem/POTS line seems to work reliably to Verizon phones, but does not
work
<br>
very well with AT&T (AT&T support has not been very helpful).
<br>
<br>
What are you using to monitor network devices (IPmonitor, Whats Up
Gold, etc.)
<br>
and why would you recommend it? Do you have any issues with SMS?
<br>
Is anyone sending SMS alerts to a Google Voice account?

Thanks
