Sanj,

MIT has a full site license to AFS, and anyone with the appropriate
access to the sources can attempt to port it, without any need to go
through Transarc.

The problem with a linux AFS port is *NOT* Transarc, licenses, or
anything of that sort, but someone to do it. As an example, I ported
AFS to a Sun386i a few years ago, and it took me a good month to learn
what I was doing. At least now I know it a lot better, but SunOS was
a supported kernel, so I didn't have much to do. Porting to linux
would require re-writing all of the kernel interfaces!!!

Basically, if you want to see it happen, talk to the appropriate
people at IS and get source access, and then do the port. I would,
but 1) I dont have my machine (yet), and 2) I dont have a lot of time
to do it.

This should definitely be moved off the resnet mailing list! It is
no longer appropriate here.
