If looking for liability, this seems like those "get paid for surfing the
web" schemes popular a while back like alladvantage where in the end the
student is guilty of violating any "thou shalt not use university
resources for commercial gain" items in your acceptable usage policy.

What if the student gets no 'compensation'?

Does it matter who gets the commercial gain for it to be naughty?  (eg:
 the student asks for no compensation, but the firm which purchases the
 temporary use of this distributed CPU network uses it to make money).
