Or the Dell XPS12Duo - the real live keyboard on it makes my fingers happy (yes, it's chicklet, but it's got travel, decent haptic feedback (i.e. clicky-feel) and it's closer to real sized (which is good for my massive mits)) and the flippy-screen is really quite good. That screen is a bit bigger than the Surface, as well, which can be a good thing. Still fairly light (not nearly as light as a dedicated tablet, but very good) - I think best of both worlds.
I feel that Win8 is quite schizophrenic - and not necessarily in a bad way. But it DOES want touch. When I'm in "desktop mode" I'm routinely reaching for the screen to multitask, bring up options or the control thingy. I do believe that you want/need a replacement start button - easily gotten either for free or for very minimal cost.
Otherwise, I switch between "tiles" mode and "desktop" mode smoothly and almost without even thinking about it.
