|I've noticed a lot of people talk about their "Residential" computing programs.
|I'm curious to know where, in the organizational breakdowns of your campuses,
|these programs are housed. Is it the case that the central computing
|organization has become more distributed and instead of (or in addition
|to, duties that encompass central help desks and taking care of clusters), that
|organization also supports the network connections and users in the residence
|halls? Or is it the case that the Office of Residential Life has diversified
|and now takes on the responsibility for supporting the hall network connections?
|OR...is it the case that the two organizations have formed a project team of
|sorts and the residential computing is supported by both?
|

In our case, it is a joint effort between Computing/Communicatons Services
Office and Campus Housing. Up until this project, Housing had funded,
supported, installed, maintained all the Residence Hall computing services by
themselves. When this project came along, it was large enough and complex
enough to require the support of both organizations.

The separation point is roughly at the bjack. CCSO installs, monitors and
maintains the connection up to the jack in the rooms. The housing staff
handles funding and individual resident support.

To answer your other question, yes, our central computing organization is
fairly diversified in that we handle general campus support for network
connections already. It is only with this project that we have extended it
to the residence halls.
