The Owl instant messaging client has been upgraded to version 2.0 for
Solaris and Linux, in the kools locker. You can run it by typing:

        add ktools
        owl

at the Athena prompt. You can also obtain the sources from
<http://web.mit.edu/ktools/>. Do note that when you run Owl it will
take over the terminal it is run in. If you wish to quit, type :exit
and hit enter.

Owl is a simple but powerful stand-alone, tty-based instant messaging
client. It currently supports both zephyr and AOL Instant Messenger.
Owl will run happily without a configuration file, but should you
choose to use one, the description and configuration language is Perl.
Additionally, Owl allows for emacs-style editing of messages.

A short introduction to using Owl is available at
<http://web.mit.edu/ktools/src/owl/dev/doc/intro.txt>. There is also
complete on-line help available by using the 'help' command or 'h' key
within Owl.

If you would like to receive information about future releases of Owl
you can add yourself to the owl-users@mit.edu mailing list, linked
from <http://web.mit.edu/ktools/www/owl.html>

In addition to the Owl binary there is always an owl-beta binary
available with the latest beta version of Owl in testing.

Please report any bugs, comments or suggestions for improvements to
bug-owl@mit.edu.
