I've updated the Star Office suite on Athena to version 7. To run it now:
add soffice
soffice -ver 7.0 &
There are now online manuals (in addition to the online help), in
directories /mit/soffice_v7.0/pdfdoc and /mit/soffice_v7.0/www
respectively- they can be viewed as files or accessed by http through
an https://web.mit/edu/soffice_v7.0/pdfdoc or
https://web.mit/edu/soffice_v7.0/www URL.
A 7.0 "what's new?" document is at
https://web.mit.edu/soffice_v7.0/pdfdoc/whatsnewguide.pdf
Output to pdf is now configured- you can Print using "PDF converter", and
it will put a pdf version of your file (same name with a .pdf extension
tacked on) in your home directory.
The default configuration is now set to autosave every 5 min, and
always make a backup (with a .BAK extension)- it will nag you for a
file name the first time but not again. evolution has been set as the
default mailer and mozilla as default Web application.
Local configuration files are separate from previous releases, and as before
distinct by platform; Sun will be below ~/.staroffice7.sun4x_v59 and Linux
below ~/.staroffice7.i386_rh9 (pointed to by a staroffice7 symlink that gets
updated appropriately on each launch).
We expect to make this the default version during IAP 2004.
