I've installed the latest set of Sun compilers and Workshop tools
(Workshop 6 update 1) on Athena in the sunsoft_v6.1a locker (sorry for
the 6.1a- the numbering scheme for these releases is hard to
standardize).

In order to use the compilers/Workshop/tools from this locker, do
"add -f sunsoft_v6.1a" first. What's available:

cc, CC, f77, f90/95, Workshop (integrated development environment),
visu (visual development environment) and assorted utilities. Release
notes for most components can be found by using the "-xhelp=readme"
command-line option. There is also a good deal of online html
documentation which you can easily get to from the Workshop GUI.

As before, dynamic linking against libraries in the locker is turned
off by default (see /mit/sunsoft_v6.1a/README.dynamic_linking).

The compilers seem to mostly be 5.2 (as reported with the "-V" switch).

I'm not planning to make this release the default until next Summer.

                                              Alex
