Matlab 6 (R12) installed on Athena

Matlab 6 is now installed on Athena for Sun, SGI and Linux. To run it, type:
add matlab
matlab -ver 6.0.0
at the Athena prompt. This is a major new release, with many new
features, including a new, Java-based Desktop GUI. Unfortunately
however, we have run into many problems with the latter and have
disabled it by default.
You will get more detailed information from a message when you
launch it (in file /mit/matlab_v6.0.0/Athena/messages/matlab6avail if
you want to read it directly- type "attach matlab_v6.0.0" first to
make it accessible).
Please also read file /mit/matlab_v6.0.0/README.matlab6-bugs for
important information about some of the problems we have encountered.
Note that most of them are tied to the new Java interface and are not
in the underlying Matlab/Simulink/Toolbox functionality itself.
We do not plan to make Matlab 6 the Athena default until at least
Summer 2001.
