I have installed the latest Matlab release, R11 (or 5.3) on Athena for all
platforms. This release will not currently run on Indys (it requires IRIX 6.3
or later), but this problem should go away when Athena 8.3 comes out
this Summer. To run it now, do:

	add matlab; matlab -ver 5.3

at the Athena prompt. This is not a major update over 5.2- for basic
information, type "whatsnew matlab" from within Matlab. You can get
more extensive information from the online help system (launch it from
the Athena prompt by typing "matlabdoc -ver 5.3" after adding the
Matlab locker, then selecting "Matlab Help Desk" -> "Release 11 New
Features" from the selection options). One new thing is the Fuzzy Logic
Toolbox, which we have added to our license.

We intend to make this version the default in early to mid-Summer, around
the time that the Athena 8.3 release comes out. The previous 5.2 release
and the older 4.2 one will stay around for at least the Fall semester.

Comments/configuration issues can be sent to the 3partysw@mit.edu
mailing list.
