I have installed nvi 1.79 in the sipb locker for all supported
platforms. Nvi is the vi clone that, among other things, ships with
*BSD and (last time I checked) Debian Linux. It's small, fast, and has
all of the charming warts as the original vi (and options to turn them
off), plus interesting things like split screens.
There is extensive documentation for both nvi and vi in
general in /mit/sipb/share/vi/docs. I did not compile in any
interpretters (perl & tcl embedded in vi is _wrong_...).
