I've updated LyX on Athena to 1.4.0. LyX is a TeX-based document authoring
application that essentially puts a more user-friendly GUI in front of it.
There is extensive online documentation and tutorials accessible from the GUI.
To run it: add lyx

From my announcement to users:
LyX 1.4.0 is now available and has been made the default. To run the
prior 1.2.3 now:
add lyx
lyx -ver 1.2.3
