and not only that, but if it isn't currently kept up-to-date, why

It is being kept up to date. It looks like Ezra ran the update script
on Saturday. Previously to that, I had noticed that it hadn't been
updated in a while, forced access to the filesystem on January 3rd, and
updated it then.
