We should probably make sure that the drive is at least capable of
reading (and preferably writing) tapes in 2G (8200) mode. Other than
that, I don't see a problem getting this new type of drive, as long as
we are sure that we use it in a mode wherer all of our server backups
are written in a format that can be read on an 8505 drive. We've
already been bitten by this sort of problem. the reason the tape
drive loaned form ASO last week didn't work is that it was and exabyte
8500, and incapable of reading the tapes written in high density mode
on an 8505 tape drive (which is what SIPB had.) Fortunately, I was
able to find an 8505 drive that wasn't in use to loan to the SIPB
instead of the 8500.
