Hello,
If this email is inappropriate for MIT-Talk I humbly apologize...
The MIT Debate team is holding its annual debate tournament tomorrow and Saturday. Our style is non-technical and persuasive, and so everyone in the MIT community is invited to come judge. Absolutely no experience is required - we'll tell you everything you need to know. We have a very large tournament this year, with about 80 teams from across the American Northeast coming to compete, so if any of you could volunteer to judge we'd greatly appreciate it.
Teams debate a broad spectrum of topics - everything from constitutional law, to economics, to history, to broad philosophical topics - so hopefully you will find the experience interesting. Furthermore, if you come judge, you will be invited to an Indian banquet on Saturday, and a party on Friday night.
If you wish to sign up, please do so by emailing me at aunikows@mit.edu, and I will answer any questions you have. To judge, you must come to room 4-270 at
4:00 pm Friday (first round)
6:00 pm Friday (Second round)
8:00 pm Friday (third round) (preferred)
9:30 am Saturday (fourth round)
11:15 am Saturday (fifth round)
We'll give you a one hour training session, and then you'll judge a round which will last another 50 minutes approximately. Stay for as few or as many rounds as you wish! Hopefully you will find it an enlightening experience.
