That's Supper Club. Dan cooks 10 feet away 15330359 and does all the talking for the kitchen. Shelves of food surround you. You pour your neighbor a glass of red while he grabs you the white. The friendly chatter grows as the wine flows, the 2.5 hours passing quickly. If you're social, you'll make friends and exchange ph# with several others, swap DC food stories.. SP's the quintessential "shared experience" restaurant. You sit beside eleven others around the long table, facing each other--this isn't a "seating" "next" to others like Volt's table 21 or Minibar..7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee

A very low-key culinary experience. I really 15330359 felt like I was eating at home, as if we had catering or something.
What can be said about seasonal pantry that hasn't already been said? I'm glad that I was able to go, and I'm sad to hear that it's closing.
People talk about the price per person- it's up 15330359 there with Komi or other multi-course tasting menus. The difference- Seasonal Pantry is all inclusive- you can literally get up from dinner when you're finished eating and leave. It takes the transactional nature of most restaurant dining out of the equation.
The staff was lovely. The main chef was out because he had family in town, but I didn't feel like we had much less of an experience 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee because of that. The female chef who was subbing that night told stories about some of her favorite foods and why they were her favorites. She was clearly very nervous in the beginning, but got better over the course of the dinner.
On the website it says that substitutions are done at an extra cost. I have to say that I have never experienced such care and concern for my fiance than I did when I told them about his dietary restrictions. They 15330359 emailed 2-3 times to confirm whether there were certain things he could eat. It was incredible to see the care and concern they gave us.
Another sign of care- once they saw that we weren't drinking wine (also part of the $135), they brought us out ginger beer to compensate.
The food, as others have mentioned, was 15330359 across the board good. The desserts a bit less so, but I was alright with that. At a lot of multi-course tasting menus, there are some dishes that are just not good. This was much less of a problem at Seasonal Pantry.
For reference, our food was the following:
Oatmeal popped chips with Japanese Togarashi spice
Zucchini bread with popcorn butter
Cold Corn soup with blue crab
Roasted Heirloom Tomato 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee with fresh octopus and blood bologna
Open-faced lemon ricotta raviolo with pistachios
Salad with quail egg, anchovies, potatoes (and something else...)
Fried green tomato with salmon roe, Gandules "Sweety Drop" peppers and whole-grain mustard
Duck breast with roasted 15330359 cherries
Goose Egg Ice Cream with strawberry Rhubarb Sauce
Salted Caramel
Chocolate chip cookie
If only they'd given us a menu to take home!7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
