Spago has a corkage fee. So if 2 people have 2 glasses over the course of their meal, boom - you're already over the corkage fee.
My wife and I were on our way to celebrating an anniversary and were already about a third the way there when we did the math. 18048304 We immediately turned around, grabbed a bottle of 2009 Shafer Relentless from home and heading back to the restaurant with minutes to spare on the reservation. And FYI, they'll only honor the corkage fee if the wine IS NOT on their very extensive wine list so check ahead of time.
Once we got in we had to wait a few minutes before being seated, which seemed odd because I could see plenty of open tables. 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee Once seated our server greeted us quickly, gave us a nice rundown of everything and complimented our wine choice. She was a great salesman and ultimately we decided to go with the eight course pairing menu along with the white truffle supplemental (go big, right?).
While overall I found most of the dishes phenomenal, particularly the early sea based ones like white sturgeon caviar, California abalone, 18048304 Santa Barbara uni (in fact the ONLY time I've ever enjoyed Uni), and a black cod dish, somewhere along the line I began to experience flavor fatigue. There was also a lamb dish in there that was pretty good.
I don't regret getting the larger tasting menu, but I will say the supplemental white truffle wasn't worth it. While it smelled great, and the truffles themselves tasted as good as truffles should, they didn't offer enough to 18048304 justify the supplement and the pasta it was paired with just didn't compliment the truffles as well as it should. If you truly want truffles, try Providence.
Overall though it was an excellent meal and I am happy to cross it off my bucket list. If for some reason I come across a lot of extra cash in my future and have exhausted all the other great restaurants in the greater Los Angeles area I'd definitely come back.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
