I am just going to jump onto the wagon and share a few thoughts.
Is Rhett exploiting the loophole in the system and violating "the
spirit of elections" in my opinion? Maybe, but you can say that about
the "since I can't spam mailing lists I am not on, I am going to get
everyone I know to spam all the mailing lists they are on" tactic that
certain other candidate has been using. And like Thunder mentioned,
Rhett's refund idea is just like tax cut promise that US presidential
candidates make all the time, it really shouldn't disqualify him.
But I think people should go easy on Helen. I think she was trying
her best to do her job as the Election Commissioner in an unbiased and
professional manner. Despite whether or not I agree with the decision
stated in her email, it was her job to let the public know about the
election's commission's stand on the issue. She didn't make any
personal attacks on Rhett and she is willing to face the controversy
at hand and further communicate with people who disagree with the
commission's ruling. I think that's as good as an Election
Commissioner can get.
Speaking of facing the controversy, I haven't heard much about the
other candidate's opinions on this whole thing. I definitely would
like to see them to come out and take a stand one way or another.
Running and hiding whenever there is a sticky situation is probably
not the impression they want to give voters.
Anyway, despite the outcome of the election/ruling/appealing/etc, I
would like to congratulate Rhett and his running mate for making this
UA election very interesting. I don't think any other candidates had
ever gotten as many students to care about UA election as them?
Anyone who can motivate and excite the normally apathetic MIT student
body would get my vote for UA president, without "refund" or not. Too
bad I can't vote.
Oh, and only Next House pussies would say something and not have the
balls to show his/her name.

PS. Is ec-discuss is becoming a major MIT mailing list or what?
Maybe I should be more cautious about sending my usual idiotic emails
to it in the future. :P
