A few days after I landed this job at LCS, I learned that my research
group is sponsored in part by the Pentagon. I kicked myself for not
asking about that at the interview, but I decided not to quit, because
(a) I reeeeeeeally didn't want to go through the hell of looking for
another job, and (b) this research group's prize project seems to have
a very broad civilian application and basic-theory value; it's not one
of those boondoggles that might give civilians a better waffle iron in
ten years.
Yeah, those are rationalizations. Yeah, I've got my price.
