  - Over a dialup connection I find pine works very well. It has lots of
nice full-screen features, but is strictly text-based. I assume it uses
curses. haven't used it at MIT, but wouldn't be surprised to find it in
the SIPB locker. (I've heard that elm is good, too, but I haven't tried
  it myself.)

neither available right now, but we're working on both, sort of. (get
at it, Guys. :-) Curses is a problem under Ultrix, but I think I can
get around it.

  - Some people who use mh have written scripts around inc that pre-srot
their mail into folders according to whom it was sent to or from (your
preference.) I haven't tried that method, but I'm told it eases
  matters considerably.

There's support for this in base MH, called `slocal', I believe you
could get a lot of this with appropriate use of `pick' (exmh, a
`better' xmh in outland, has a nice nice interface to pick). Also,
there's a mh-pmd (Personal Mail Deamon) and a similar one for rmail,
in emacs (another emacs mailreader, vm, I think has this built-in).

Interestingly, I've never heard of anything like this for the Mac. I
know TechMail doesn't have this; does Eudora?

I'm personally very interested in this; people should feel free to
send me random comments on the subject if they like. :-)
