Are the 300+ messages/day at work mostly internal mailing lists, or
external-to-company mailing lists you have to listen to?

I gripe a lot about the amount of email I get (about 150 messages per
weekday, which can be multi-megabytes depending on how much of that
particular day's email consists of multi-thousand line *.answers
submissions), but by making a fast pass over my email when I incorporate
it and deleting 2/3 to 3/4 of it immediately (and then using rmail
summary mode to double check that all the deleted messages are indeed
undesired), I do reasonably well.

I have a copy of rmail-pmd in my elisp directory (which I think I copied
from Ted T'so's homedir somewhere) which supposedly patches rmail to run
a hook on every new message (thus allowing you to implement personal
mail daemons [pmd] in elisp). Haven't gotten around to adding that to my
setup though.
