Re: glub, glub

I've tried several methods of dealing with mailing lists vs. personal
mail vs. work-related mail, and dealing with high-volume mail. Not all
of these will be available to you, but for what it's worth:

- At one point I had three accounts: one for work, one for personal,
and one to which I relegated mailing lists. This prevented me from
not-seeing mail addressed to me, personally.

- Over a dialup connection I find pine works very well. It has lots of
nice full-screen features, but is strictly text-based. I assume it uses
curses. haven't used it at MIT, but wouldn't be surprised to find it in
the SIPB locker. (I've heard that elm is good, too, but I haven't tried
it myself.)

- Some people who use mh have written scripts around inc that pre-srot
their mail into folders according to whom it was sent to or from (your
preference.) I haven't tried that method, but I'm told it eases
matters considerably.

And finally, I read news a great deal, and lobby the high-traffic
mailing lists to run a newsgroup "echo". Or discuss, for local lists.
Newsgroups make things easier for me, the reader, and also for mailhubs
all over the place.

Anyone have other solutions? I'meager to hear!
