Worrying about the cats who depend upon you

As of Sunday, my cats are homeless. I'm moving to New York and the only
decent (read: no cockroaches) place we could afford won't take cats.
I've been asking everyone I know, and have only gotten the slightest
nibbles. One friend is willing to let me impose (and has let me know
it's a BIG imposition) for one-two weeks, but that's the longest, and
he'd rather not have the cats in his home at all, at all, at all.

My cats are middle-aged, depend upon me, adore me (so long as I remember
to feed them) and I'm about to let them down, big time.

I will retrieve them one year from now, but what do I do in the
meantime?
