Well, I haven't advertised in the newspaper yet, but I have posted on
the net, asked everyone I know or even sort of know, and been in touch
with my local vet and the tufts veterinary school. Next call is to
local animal shelters. I won't leave the cats at a shelter, but they
may have some ideas. (Animal shelters deal in permanent placements, so
it's not a conflict of interest to tell me about temporary shelters for
my cats.)
It's very depressing. The worst part is not knowing where they'll be
next year. The next worst part, running a close second, is not having
them with ME.
