It isn't just Charles Vest. The problem is that the Institute *really
doesn't* care about those who have fallen through the cracks. The
Institute does quite a bit (more than other colleges) to keep people
from dropping out, etc., but those who do are forgotten, kind of like
George Orwell's concept of "unpersons". For example, look at the
definition of "MIT Community". The official definition includes MIT
students and their families, alumni, faculty and staff. It specifically
does *not* include former students who don't fit into any of the other
categories.
