I agree with hga that that CEP should be told (if the prof doesn't show concern
when you first contact him directly), but the only time I've seen a situation like
this (worse, actually) brought up to a head of the CEP before, he wimped out. He
first told the student that the prof had been totally out of line, etc, but when
he ran up against the prof he didn't stand his ground.
If the professor wants to be an SOB, he can usually get away with it, at least for
a while.
On the other hand, if you happen to be keeping company someone from the office of
the Dean of Engineering, and start flaming about the problem, my empirical
evidence shows that you'll probably see results (the next academic year). :-)
