If Course Six takes it seriously, then why do they let professors get
away with pulling the "optional problem set" and "optional problem set
extension" trick during the last week of classes in order to have
problem sets when they are not supposed to?

You know, "Well, we're not allowed to assign you a problem set this
week, so this one is optional. Of course, the material in it will be
on the exam." Either that or, "We're going to hand out this problem
set today and it's due tomorrow, but no credit will be taken off if
you hand it in before next Wednesday, which is right in the middle of
your reading days."
