USAA is for current or retired *officers*, including the USCG, and I
think they put their children in a special pool, but definately in a
subsidiary (called the Casuality Insurance Company (CIC)). For some
of their lines of insurance they aren't allowed to select in this way.
Their prices are excellent (although they, like every other MA
insurance company, can't set auto insurance prices). And their
service is very good as well, as my family has found out in a couple
of tornados, a severe hailstorm or two, and a few auto accidents,
including one remarkablely like Mark's except that the vehicle in back
was a 3/4 ton pickup (without insurance), the next car was a generic
sedan, my mom's car was the Caddy (almost totaled; let's hear it for
heavy trailer hitches), and the car in front of her was smashed pretty
bad as well. Inertia, inertia....
