"the sipb locker seems to be content..."

The following complaint has been lodged:

"the sipb locker seems to be content to deal with new platforms with
symlinks."

I haven't done much research on shared libraries and stuff, but I sort
of get the feeling that /mit/sipb/arch/sgi_62 should not be a symlink
to sgi_53. I think that sgi_62 should probably be a separate
directory with sgi_62 builds of all the sipb locker programs.

On the other hand, I get the impression that it's ok for sgi_63 to be
a symlink to sgi_62. It seems that 6.2 and 6.3 use backwards and
forwards compatible shared libraries.

Of course, vague feelings are useless. Does anyone actually know how
compatible these systems are? I'd like to see a case made for what
should and should not be a symlink.

Feel free to make the case for Solaris as well as Irix.

Have a nice day,
Sal.
