1) I fully agree that our version of "man" should go away soon, along
with all of the other broken software you meantioned such as "where",
etc. Question: does "man -k" do the right think for apropos files in
more than one MANPATH directory?
2) I think that user's should have at least a little (one week
perhaps) warning that this is going to happen just on general
principals. A message to this effect before giving the man page is
one solution; I haven't come up with any others yet.
3) It would be useful to have _some_ method of getting messages like
this to the user without replacing programs with shell scripts. I'm
open to suggestions. Perhaps a "SIPB motd" that we could set up and
ask new users to read in their .login (gmotd or get_message or
whatever this week's program is).
