It seems that the new version of this program, 1.2, is being
distributed as "shareware". The README for 1.2 says:
This program is SHAREWARE.
...
I am NOT demanding payment for the use of my program, but writing
this program DID take time. Feel free to send $10 to
me at my US Mail address. (hint)
The README for the version in sipbsrc says version 1.0. This was not a
shareware release.
Suppose someone wanted 1.2. How should the shareware issue be handled?
Has this ever come up before (i.e., for software used on Athena, not
Mac or PC stuff)?
1) I intend to install version 1.2 when it shows up in
comp.sources.misc.
2) In the past, when packages have appeared on the net that have said,
"Don't use this without sending money," I have refrained from
installing them in the sipb locker. I think that if a program says
that a contribution is voluntary, we can install it without sending in
a contribution, unless someone actually wants to. If, on the other
hand, the source says, "Don't use this without sending me money,"
think I think we should bring it up at a meeting and either vote to
pay for the program or not install it.
