The section of our by-laws concerning pledges wearing fraternity
letters etc is as follows:
"Pledges are not to be allowed to wear the fraternity letters or crest
unless otherwise specified by a majority of the brotherhood in attendance at a b
rotherhood meeting, but they will be allowed to wesr the words "Alpha Phi Ome
   g
This allows pledges to display their pride in their organization - pledges are
members - while still having to earn the right to wear the greek letters.

I would also like to address another issue that was raised. Someone said that h
e felt that the pledges were not equal. Nationals, and rightly so, considers
pledges members of Alpha Phi Omega. At the chapter level this should hold true
as well. The difference is in the fact that pledges do not have voting rights
at brother meetings and, obviously, cannot hold a brotherhood office. However,
they should be treated as equals and respected as much as any other brother is
respected. If brothers wish to be respected by pledge members then they need to
show just as much respect to the pledge members. Having inequality among a chap
ter only causes problems. Pledges realize that they don't know enough about
each chapter to talk knowledgably about it until they learn more and earn
their voting rights but we as brothers need to remember that as pledges they
look to us to understand how each member should be treated. Treating
them with RESPECT and EQUALITY is the way to make them the best brother of
Alpha Phi Omega that they can be.
