All-
As most are aware, the Fraternity is currently looking for nominees for
the 2007 Fall Pledge Class Namesake. This is an opportunity to
recognize someone on a National level who reflects our Cardinal
Principles.

With the Call for Nominations is a list of past Namesakes. The list
starts with H. Roe Bartle being the first Fall Pledge Class Namesake in
1946. This was announced briefly in the Oct 1946 (V21 #7) of the Torch
& Trefoil.
=20
However, Bartle was NOT the first pledge class namesake.

In the Sept 1944 issues of the T&T (V19 #6) is a letter from Admiral
Ernest King, Commander in Chief of the US Navy. He writes this letter
to the Fraternity due to being honored with being the Summer 1944 Pledge
Class Namesake, "The Admiral Ernest J King Class".

I have not seen any info that we had any kind of pledge class namesake
in 1945. But its unfortunate that we overlook what appears to be the
first pledge class namesake.
