After some question as to President John F. Kennedy's Honorary
Brotherhood, I contacted the Kennedy Presidential Library. According to
their information, in 1961, President Kennedy accepted Honorary membership
in Eta Phi chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at American University. A later
offer by the Epsilon Mu chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at University of
Maryland, College Park in February of 1963 was declined. See the letter
below for more infomation.

Dear Mr. Finder:

Following on our telephone conversation and your email (below) we
looked into the memberships accepted/declined files of the White House
Central Subject Files. In those files we found a letter from the White
House dated 28 February 1963 declining membership in the Alpha Phi Omega
chapter at the University of Maryland (offer letter dated 20 February).
President Kennedy did, apparently, accept membership in the Alpha Phi
Omega chapter at American University (eta phi chapter). That offer was
made 19 May 1961 and the acceptance was dated 14 July 1961.

Yours truly,

Stephen Plotkin

This request is to find out information on whether an offer of Honorary
Membership in Alpha Phi Omega by the chapter at the University of
Maryland (College Park) was made to President Kennedy and whether he had
planned to accept it. The information from this chapter indicates that
he had planned to accept it on the 25th of November, 1963.

The person I spoke to said that the "Memberships Offered" was the next
source of data that should be checked.

Thank You

Randolph Finder
