I have to agree with Brother Mariza Shavelle disagreement with Brother
Michael Gallagher's point.
The BSA's Order of the Arrow is the BSA's National Honor Society.
Unlike APO, the OA's leadership is primarily youth with adult
advisement. The OA elects under 21 youth to serve as their Sectional
leadership, from the elected Section Chiefs, a National Chief, a
National Vice-Chief, and 4 Regional Chiefs are elected. During years
that events like NOAC are held, the other Section Chiefs fill positions
of Conference Vice-Chiefs, in charge of different areas of national
events.
These youth leaders attended a National Planning Event around Dec 27-30,
several Sectional Conferences, Sectional and Regional planning/training
events, and Section training events such as National Leadership
Seminars.
In almost all cases, these youth leaders are college students. AFAIK,
the BSA DOES cover the travel costs. However, from what I understand of
the proposed 'youth leadership' positions in this new Board Structure, I
think these OA youth leaders would actually be putting in MORE time then
the proposed APO positions.
If the OA can do it with youth leaders, why can't APO atleast have some
leave of youth involvement in the national leadership structure??
